Crystal Flash Donates Bikes To Local Domestic Violence Charity

Gladwin, Michigan, April 29, 2015 – Crystal Flash, one of the largest energy providers in Michigan, recently provided 12 bikes to the Gladwin Shelterhouse.

During a weekend conference held in Gladwin, company representatives put together unassembled bikes as an opportunity to build teamwork and cooperation across departments and locations.

“We were trying to find a team building activity that also served the community,” said Jayne Stanard, systems process manager. “A few of our team members had done similar activities at previous employers and said it was fulfilling experience.

The bikes underwent a thorough safety inspection by Crystal Flash technicians before they were given to the Gladwin Shelter House.

“Giving back to the communities we serve is an integral part of who we are as a company,” Staynard said. “We are pleased to offer these bikes to Shelter House to help them advance their mission.”

Shelter House is a nonprofit organization that provides housing, advocacy and counseling to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. In addition to the bikes, Crystal Flash team members contributed items such as gas cards, grocery cards, household paper goods and toiletry products.

“We are so thankful for the bikes and items Crystal Flash has generously provided to us,” said Jeanine Ouderkirk, Shelter House’s executive director. “The support we receive from our community is vital in continuing our mission of ending domestic violence.”

The nonprofit plans to give the small bikes to children who may not have another opportunity to receive one.

According to Ouderkirk, the gas cards are also a great need for the organization.

“Living in a rural area with a limited bus system can make getting around for our clients difficult. The gas cards will help us ensure that clients are able to attend their counseling sessions and other necessary appointments.”

Annually, Crystal Flash participates in multiple charity events and philanthropic endeavors around the state.

“We not only work in the communities we serve but also live there,” Stanard said. “So it is a natural fit to get involved and give back.
