Crystal Flash is one of Michigan's largest suppliers of energy-related products and services. Many of the company's fleet of 125 trucks deliver propane, heating oil, to thousands of homes in rural areas. Some deliver gasoline and diesel fuel to trucking companies, construction contractors, and farms. Other Crystal Flash trucks pick up used motor oil, oil filters, and antifreeze for recycling. Crystal Flash wind turbines generate electricity that is delivered to homes and businesses through Michigan's statewide power grid. Turning Waste Into Profit
"It's hard to imagine why it takes 4000 pounds of raw materials to produce one four-pound notebook computer," says Bill Stough, who heads up Sustainable Research Group LLC, a new firm owned in part by Crystal Flash. "Add cars, houses and gadgets, multiply that by the total number of people in the world, and it becomes obvious that we will soon reach a point where we have far more demand for products than raw materials from which to make them."

Sustainable Research Group first measures the size of the footprint a company makes on the earth's natural resources, and then recommends ways to reduce the size of that footprint.
